The Chandan Arora film “STRIKER” is all set in a Mumbai ghetto in the mid `80s & based on true life accounts,Striker is a story of triumph of human spirit over indomitable odds.Striker is the stlory of carrom player,however its not a sport film.its more like a biopic of a boy who happens to be a carrom player.
Born into a poor family,Surya grows up with few luxuries,poor health keeps him away from school often and that is when his elder brother,Chandrakant,introduces him to CARROM.Carrom is quiet common among people from middle and lower income groups all over india.attitude and confidence are the main keys to win.Winning the junior Carrom championship at 12 is not enough to keep Surya`s fire for the sport burning through adolescence.hopes for a job in DUBAI replace the passion for carrom as Surya grows into a young man.Job in dubai is his like dream.
Duped by a bogus overseas employment agency,Surya loses all his hard earned money he had saved for going to dubai.surya is forced to crosspaths with jaleel.
Since the 70`s when the settlements in ghetto began,Jaleel had acquired a strong hold in the area.He had his hands in every illicit activity since then.Jaleel is the most dreaded gangster in Malwani.Jllel is the quintessential anti-hero.Feeding on the bedlam and weakness of people,Jaleel was the self proclaimed king of Malwani.Reintoduced to carrom by his childhood freind Zaid,this time to the hustling scene,Surya starts playing again to not let his circumstances get the better of him,but the other way around.
Being gypped of his hand earned by the same man who had caused misery of many families.Surya decides to take on Jaleel on his turf.his patience and cool attitude are surya`s biggest strength,but life has ways of testing even the strong.
SOUND TRACKS:
The soundtrack album of Striker consists of 8 songs composed by various artists such as Vishal bhardwaj, noted Tamil composer Yuvan shankar raja in his Bollywood debut, Amit trivedi, rapper Blaaze, Shailendra Barve and lyricist-singer Swanand kirkire, whilst lyrics are penned by Nitin Raikwar, Blaaze, Prashant Ingole, Jeetendra Joshi,Swanand kirkire and Gulzar. Siddharth himself is the Album producer and has lent his voice for two of the songs. The album was released on 12 January 2010.All the songs capture the spirit and diverse facets of Bombay.
